Two years after it first wowed visitors at the New York International Auto Show, the Genesis GV80 concept is nearly ready to begin production as the luxury brand’s first SUV. It could debut as soon as this fall and be available in time for the 2020 model year.
GV80 Concept’s Exterior
The GV80 concept’s exterior emphasizes powerful curves and sleek side sculpting based on Genesis’ “Athletic Elegance” design architecture. A dazzling diamond grille and jewel-like horizontal quad LED headlamps give the concept a striking front presence. Based on spy shots we’ve seen, it’s likely that the production GV80 will follow suit.
We’re also excited to see how the production GV80’s interior compares to the visionary concept version. The GV80 concept’s cabin boasted thrilling technologies like a 22-inch curved OLED display and a full-length console with capacitive touch inlays for each passenger.
Hydrogen Fuel Cell Powertrain
The GV80 featured a cutting-edge hydrogen fuel cell powertrain, but it’s not clear if that technology will be included on the production version. For now, we’re expecting the production GV80 to share platform and engine options with the G80 sedan, including a 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6, a 3.8-liter V6, and a 5.0-liter V8.
When more information emerges on the GV80, we’ll be sure to pass it along — and let you know when you’ll be able to test-drive this exciting new SUV at Evansville Genesis. In the meantime, take a look at our Genesis Sedan inventory, available today!
